Juror: Brad Birchett

Brad Birchett (bradbirchettart.com) is an intermedia artist and native of Virginia. His work involves an investigation of time through collecting and displacing objects and through physical movements. His art pieces may include (but are not limited to) documentation, sound, drawings, objects, multiples, mixed media, bio-art, collections, interventions, and installations — often layered and intertwined over time.

Brad has exhibited his work nationally at venues such as the Myers Gallery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Prescott College Gallery in Prescott, Arizona; Studio Montclair in Montclair, New Jersey; Delicious Spectacle Gallery in Washington D.C.; and The Center for Book Arts in New York. His work has also been in international exhibitions at Philara Gallery in Dusseldorf Germany, Crou’n Haitai Gallery in Seoul Korea, and Imagine Gallery in Bejing China. Brad’s essay, Assessing the Process, was recently published in Integrative Teaching International’s magazine, Future Forward: Foundations NOW.

Brad is an Artist Emeritus Member of 1708 Gallery in Richmond, Virginia and has curated exhibitions such as Constructed Form and Richard Carlyon: A Retrospective — Interval. Brad is an Instructor and Advisor for VCU School of the Arts and University College in Richmond, Virginia.

These photographs show the painting of FCCA's building facade in process and completed.  This was made possible by this years Love the Silversmith House donations.

Leftover funds are earmarked for restoration of the dormer windows on the third floor.  Thanks to all who donated to this years fund drive!

CALL FOR ENTRIES: MEMBERS’ HOLIDAY SHOW

December 2019


***Strictly for Current FCCA Members***


Deliver all artwork on Saturday, November 30, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm || CONTRACT

  • Deliver artwork (Limit of 3 framed pieces, no larger than 24″ on longest side) and/or other items (cards, framed artwork for bins) with a signed contract & inventory on November 30th between 9:30am-12:30pm
  • Deliver all artwork in a condition suitable for hanging (no saw tooth)
  • All work must be for sale with a wall label 2″ x 4″
  • Label all artwork on the back with artist’s name, title of piece and price
  • Hang work in the Members’ Gallery space provided by FCCA
  • Each person participating will serve one 4-hour shift as a Docent (Downstairs in the Members Gallery) You will be able to sign up for your shift when dropping off artwork
  • Provide refreshments for December First Friday Public Reception on December 6th Opening First Friday reception is from 6pm-9pm

Remove all artwork between 9:30am – noon on Saturday, December 28, 2019

FCCA Artists part of VMRC Exhibit in Harrisonburg


Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts artists artwork in Harrisonburg show
Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts is pleased to announce six FCCA members will have artwork featured in the 14th Annual VMRC Art Exhibition in Harrisonburg, Virginia. According to an email from VMRC, “there were a total of 205 artists hailing from 30 states…which means less than half of this year’s submitting artist and an exclusive 18% of the submitted works will be displayed” in the 100 piece exhibit.

The artists chosen are Lee Cochrane, Dawn Whitmore, Penny Parrish, Robert S. Hunter, Norma Woodward, and Teresa Blatt. The show will be hosting an Artist Award Reception on June 4th from 2pm-4pm at the VMRC Park Gables Gallery. The show will run until June 30th. A preview of the entire show can be seen by visiting:
