Juror: Christine Long

A graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook with a BA in Art/Art History, Christine pursued her desire to teach as well as to do art at Columbia University Teachers’ College in Manhattan, where she received her Master of Art in Education. Having received permanent certification to teach Art K-12 in NY State, she began a 44 year long career in public school teaching. She taught and showed her work in New York with the local Art League and East End Galleries. After 18 years of teaching in New York, Christine moved to Fredericksburg to give her two sons a chance to be judged for their character, not the brand of clothes they wore. Long Island had become too affluent, contradicting the values she wanted her sons to learn.

While teaching in Prince William County, she continued her education, earning certification in Gifted Education in addition to graduate courses at Virginia Commonwealth University in Painting, Bookmaking, Printmaking, and various other interesting media. She has taught art privately to adults and children. And through it all, she has pursued her total commitment to the doing of art. She has a studio at Liberty Town here in Fredericksburg, and shows her work regularly in local galleries.
