Juror: Michael Dean is a Virginia-based painter, sculptor and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the shifting energies of the natural world. Working in both the round and bas-relief, his sculptures and Plein Air paintings reflect a dynamic dialogue between instinct, observation, and emotion. Dean holds an MFA from the University of Maryland and has exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows in New York, Montreal, Paris, and Bordeaux. His recent exhibitions include the Adkins Arboretum Juried Plein Air Show, the Fredericksburg Creative Center for the Arts, and the Caboose Market & Café. A recipient of multiple honors—including awards from Manhattan Arts International, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Mid Atlantic Art Exhibition— Dean currently teaches art at the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College. His work continues to evolve through a deep engagement with nature’s rhythms and the expressive potential of form.
