Pete Brown is an oil painter. His need to paint is driven by the desire to share something beautiful. His vision of a subject is usually an enhanced version of what he observes. He paints on the edge of reality, utilizing lost and found edges and broken colors, leading the viewer to complete the image in their own mind. His pursuit of capturing not only what he sees, but what he imagines drives him to recreate nature’s beauty on canvas. The son of a waterman, Pete is often drawn to scenes of water and workboats. After retirement, Pete pursued his art more seriously, studying with the noted teacher Andy Braitman for four years. He found his “painting voice” and has been able to teach and inspire others to find their voice.

Artists Statement

“My Edge of Reality” is about sharing my escape from worldly problems to the worldly beauty in the things I see ( and imagine). Nature provides limitless inspiration. Old work boats recall the dignity that is in all labor. Flower arrangements brings the beauty of nature inside. Finally, every person is beautiful in their own way but none are without conflicting thoughts of their being. Finding the inspiration of those thoughts captures their beauty.
