Born and raised in Puerto Rico and New York City, Berríos earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Río Piedras and a seminar study at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. He also earned a master’s degree in Library Science from UPR Río Piedras, where he worked as the Head of the Photographic Laboratory. He relocated to Virginia and retired after 30 years of service as a Micrographics Section Head and Spanish Acquisitions Specialist from the U.S. Library of Congress.

Berríos creates acrylic paintings that are semi-abstract, hard edge and figurative. His art represents his passions for social justice, history, music, politics and his Christian faith. To create his paintings, Berríos blends each unique color to achieve harmony on canvas.

Berrios has exhibited his work in multiple locations in Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Virginia. He is currently a member of the Prince William Art Society and the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts (FCCA). In recent years, he has exhibited his work at Montclair Library in Dumfries, Open Space Arts in Woodbridge, the Manassas Museum, the ARTfactory and Annaburg Mansion in Manassas, and Cast Iron Craft House in Warrenton. He shows regularly at FCCA in the Frederick and Members’ Galleries, where he has an solo exhibit of his new series “Original Natives” November 1-28, 2025.
