Surface Impressions

Juror's Statement—I would like to thank the FCCA and Carrol Morgan for the opportunity to jury the November National Exhibit. The Theme for this exhibition is "Surface Impressions" which I had in mind throughout the entire selection process. The submitted artwork included actual work and digital images of work created in a variety of media and processes by local artists and artists living across the nation. As I initially viewed the work a grouping of pieces that I wanted to include emerged. I then reviewed the submitted work noting competent and interesting use of media. I proceeded to add artwork to the group of pieces that had already stuck with me. I was most drawn to works with intriguing or emotive surfaces and strong images.
For me a successful work of art and a successful show is one that stays in your mind and you want to view again. While driving back to Richmond after the selection process I recollected the "Surface Impressions" work and became anxious to see the installed exhibit particularly since I had yet to view in person the work chosen from digital images. I always appreciate an opportunity to visit FCCA and look at the wonderful array of art submitted and on view. Again, thank you for this experience and thank you to all who submitted their artwork. I hope you enjoy "Surface Impressions."
