Johnny P. Johnson born in Hendersonville, NC, arrived in Fredericksburg, VA, in 1959, to teach art at Walker Grant High School. Johnny received his B.S degree from Virginia State College and his MFA from Howard University with additional study at the Corcoran School of Art. He taught at the University of Mary Washington and James Monroe High School, retiring in 1991. An award winning artist, teacher, juror and humanitarian, Johnson has exhibited his work internationally in the U.S., France, Benin, and Jamaica. His paintings are in many corporate, diplomatic and private collections. A founding member of Art First Gallery in 1992, Johnson continues to teach and mentor artists of all ages.
