FEATURING THE WORKS OF PATRICIA SMITH
"I believe that there is no changing the world without expanding the self"
PATRICIA SMITH'S work in and out of the studio concerns social justice. She believes that there is no changing the world without expanding the self, which is why she chose 'Transformation' as the title of this exhibit. She explains:
"These paintings interrogate the state of the world and our place in it. Sometimes I am complicit through silence, and navigating current events via the art making process allows me to participate in the struggle for meaning. My tendency is to flee conflict, but the creative process allows me to confront the world."
Before moving to central Virginia, Patricia maintained a studio at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Currently, she exhibits her work at FCCA and Art Impact International. She has paintings displayed in Artspan under the name Patricia Smith.
